Jacobs started performing voiceovers at the age of nine for a local children's show called The Land of Play. She later moved to Los Angeles with her family, where she pursued singing and stage performances. She is a graduate of the USC School of Music and also attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London.

 

Jacobs' breakthrough came when she was cast as April O'Neil in the TMNT animated series. She portrayed April as a strong, conviction-driven reporter, drawing from the character's description rather than the comics.

 

Beyond TMNT, Jacobs lent her voice to various animated series and films, including Rose Petal Place (1984) and Rose Petal Place: Real Friends (1985), It's Punky Brewster! (1985), The Glo Friends Save Christmas (1985), My Little Pony (1986), Moon Dreamers (1986), and The Adventures of Don Coyote and Sancho Panda (1990).

 

In 2014, Jacobs returned to the TMNT universe, guest-starring in Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. She voiced April's long-lost mother in the episode "Buried Secrets".
